A tender, buttery simple vanilla cake made with pantry staples and perfect for any occasion. Easy to make in one bowl and customizable with frostings or toppings.

  • 1½ cups all-purpose flour

  • 1½ tsp baking powder

  • ¼ tsp salt

  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened

  • 1 cup granulated sugar

  • 2 large eggs

  • 1½ tsp vanilla extract

  • ½ cup whole milk

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a 9-inch cake pan.

  • Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

  • Beat in eggs one at a time, then vanilla.

  • Whisk flour, baking powder, and salt in a separate bowl.

  • Add dry ingredients to the butter mixture in 2 batches, alternating with milk.

  • Pour into pan and smooth the top.

  • Bake 30–35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.

  • Cool and frost if desired.
