This Neiman Marcus Cake is a rich, indulgent chocolate cake with creamy frosting and a touch of crunch from chopped pecans, perfect for any celebration.
For the Cake:
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups sugar
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 eggs
1 cup buttermilk
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup boiling water
For the Frosting:
1/2 cup butter
1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/4 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
4 cups powdered sugar
Chopped pecans (optional)
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
Mix dry ingredients for the cake in a large bowl.
Add eggs, buttermilk, oil, and vanilla. Mix until smooth.
Add boiling water to the batter (it will be thin).
Pour batter into prepared pans and bake for 30–35 minutes. Cool completely.
For the frosting, melt butter and cocoa powder in a saucepan. Add milk, vanilla, and powdered sugar. Stir until smooth.
