This Neiman Marcus Cake is a rich, indulgent chocolate cake with creamy frosting and a touch of crunch from chopped pecans, perfect for any celebration.

For the Cake:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 2 cups sugar

  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 2 eggs

  • 1 cup buttermilk

  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1 cup boiling water

For the Frosting:

  • 1/2 cup butter

  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

  • 1/4 cup milk

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 4 cups powdered sugar

  • Chopped pecans (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

  • Mix dry ingredients for the cake in a large bowl.

  • Add eggs, buttermilk, oil, and vanilla. Mix until smooth.

  • Add boiling water to the batter (it will be thin).

  • Pour batter into prepared pans and bake for 30–35 minutes. Cool completely.

  • For the frosting, melt butter and cocoa powder in a saucepan. Add milk, vanilla, and powdered sugar. Stir until smooth.
