This rich and gooey Neiman Marcus Cake is a Southern classic with a buttery base and creamy, custard-like topping made from cream cheese and powdered sugar.

  • 1 box yellow cake mix

  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted

  • 3 eggs, divided

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened

  • to 4 cups powdered sugar

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line a 9×13-inch pan.

  • Combine cake mix, melted butter, and 1 egg. Press into pan for crust.

  • In a separate bowl, beat cream cheese until smooth.

  • Add 2 eggs and vanilla extract. Mix well.

  • Gradually add powdered sugar and beat until smooth and creamy.

  • Pour over crust layer and spread evenly.

  • Bake for 35–40 minutes, until edges are golden and center is slightly jiggly.

  • Cool completely before cutting into bars.
