Cake:
1½ cups all-purpose flour
1½ tsp ground cardamom
1 tsp baking powder
½ tsp baking soda
¼ tsp salt
½ cup unsalted butter, room temp
¾ cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
½ cup sour cream or Greek yogurt
¼ cup milk
Streusel:
⅓ cup all-purpose flour
¼ cup brown sugar
½ tsp cinnamon
½ tsp cardamom
3 tbsp cold butter, cubed
(Optional) ¼ cup chopped nuts
Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease and line an 8×8-inch pan.
Mix streusel ingredients until crumbly. Chill.
Whisk dry cake ingredients in a bowl.
In another bowl, cream butter and sugar. Beat in eggs, vanilla, sour cream, and milk.
Stir in dry ingredients until just combined.
Spread batter into pan and sprinkle with streusel.
Bake 35–42 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
Add orange zest for a bright flavor twist.
Serve warm or at room temperature.
